Fairmont Housing Authority Apartments
The Fairmont Housing Authority offers 136 apartments in 7 separate developments. Located on the East and West Side of Fairmont, each development is different and offers a number of attractive amenities. Units range in size from one bedroom to five bedroom apartments in several styles, Townhouse and Duplex. The developments have several fully accessible units.
Fairmont Developments offer an apartment type just right for you and your family. Each apartment is equipped with kitchen appliances, washer/dryer hook-ups, forced air gas heat, central air, gas hot water, on-site parking, generous yards, and new playgrounds among other amenities.
The Townhouse layout provides one to five bedroom units on two floors. Apartments include living room, kitchen/dining, one or two baths, ample closet space, and outside storage buildings.
The Duplex layout provides one and two story apartments that can meet a variety of tenant needs, including elderly and the disabled. Several of the apartments are fully handicapped accessible promoting independent living.
The Fairmont Housing Authority can tailor your rent to meet your individual economic situation. We have designed Fairmont Developments to be the "affordable choice" for apartments that are attractive, comfortable, and secure. Rental assistance is available for families who are at or below 50% of the area median income. Those families only pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income for rent. Market rate units are also available. On site maintenance, trash, lawn care and parking are included.

TENANT QUALIFICATIONS AND RENT
Assisted rent is based on 30% of the household adjusted monthly income. Income adjustments are made for medical expenses, dependent children, and handicap elderly. There is no asset limit but, dividends and interest are counted as income. A Security Deposit of $225.00 will be charged for a one bedroom unit and $250.00 for a 2-5 bedroom unit. There is a $30 security deposit for trash cans.
To be eligible for Fairmont Housing Rental Apartments you must be an adult over the age of eighteen (18) years of age or an emancipated minor. To receive rental assistance, your household income cannot exceed the following federally established income limits.

Fairmont Housing Authority also has an affordable rent structure for families above established income limits. Households above the federal income guidelines may rent an apartment based on current HUD Fair Market Rent.

The Federal Government requires all applicants to be screened. The screening process includes but is not limit to a credit check, landlord references, and criminal background check. Applicants who have engaged in violent/drug related criminal activities, or who are registered sex offenders are ineligible.
HOW TO APPLY
You may obtain an application for Fairmont Housing Authority Apartments at the Fairmont Housing Authority Office, fill out our application or request one by email . Once the Housing Authority receives your completed application, your name will be place on the waiting list according to time and date of your application. When your name has been selected from the waiting list you will be scheduled for a meeting to determine your eligibility and to explain the rules and regulations.

1. When you submit your application to Fairmont Housing Authority apartments, you will be asked to complete a form detailing your most recent 5 year rental history including the names and addresses of any landlords you have had. Also, you will complete and sign a release of information form, and a credit/criminal background check form.
When you attend your eligibility meeting you will need to bring the following documents with you: photo ID's (such as a driver's license) for all adult household members; birth certificates for all household members and social security cards for all household members.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are pets allowed?
Small pets are allowed according to Housing Authority written guidelines. A non-refundable pet deposit is assessed, and dogs and cats must have proof of vaccinations. Pets are not allowed to run loose.
Who pays for utilities?
Water, gas, electric, phone and cable utilities are the responsibility of the tenant.
What amenities are provided?
A range and refrigerator are included with each apartment. Each Apartment also has a washer and dryer hook-up. On-site maintenance is provided along with lawn service. Some locations also include storage space and playgrounds. Free parking is provided at all sites.
Where are the Apartments located?
Fairmont Housing Authority owns a total of 136 apartments located on both the East side and West side of Fairmont. Sizes range from 1-5 bedrooms and include both 1 story and 2 story units. Locations include Oregon Avenue, Columbia Street, View Avenue, Maple Avenue, Chicago Street, Norval Street, Howard Street, Ogden Avenue, Billingslea Street and Carlone Street.
Who can apply?
Fairmont Housing Authority accepts applications from both market rate renters, as well as those needing rental assistance. Criminal, credit and landlord background checks are performed on all applications to Housing Authority owned apartments. Applicants are screened according to HUD and Housing Authority policy.
